Downtown

Living

With its beautiful character homes, warm community vibe, and long summers, it’s no wonder why downtown Kamloops is such a sought-after neighborhood! Here, you’ll find many heritage homes of all sizes, as well as other mature homes. There are also many older single-family homes, with some new construction and significantly renovated homes, as well as condos, townhouses and apartments. Downtown is home to approximately 9,000 residents.

Shopping & Dining

Within walking distance are plenty of cafes, shopping, nightlife and some of Kamloops’ finest restaurants. Brownstone, Commodore (which turns into a bar in the evening), Noble Pig, Hello Toast and Mittz Kitchen are only a handful of the great restaurants to check out. Coffee shops include PDK Café, Zack’s, Blendz and Café Motivo (all excellent!). A large public library and art gallery are at the center, as well as a smaller movie theatre. The downtown farmer’s market runs outdoors from May to October, and offers the freshest local produce and goodies to its visitors. Downtown also has many professional offices and a newer walk-in clinic. There’s a Save On Foods, London Drugs, Dollar Store and many other conveniences for downtown Kamloops residents. The Royal Inland Hospital is located in South Kamloops and has been undergoing significant renovations, including a new tower and heli-pad.

Parks & Recreation

Riverside Park is home to many events all throughout spring, summer and fall, including free nightly concerts in July and August. It features a spray park and playground, great for kids of all ages. Right beside Riverside is Pioneer Park, the perfect place to take your four-legged loved one, with its large, dog-friendly park and beach. For the outdoor enthusiasts, the 94 hectare Peterson Creek is home to over 30 kilometers of beautiful hiking trails leading to caves, falls and gorgeous views. For those with little ones, there are plenty of child-friendly parks including Prince Charles Park, which features a newer large wading pool for those hot summer days. The Sandman Center hosts Kamloops’ local WHL team, The Blazers, and also has many other performances and events throughout the year. Sagebrush Theatre and Pavillion Theatre are both located downtown and put on amazing live theatre and musical productions. The YMCA/YWCA is on 4th and Battle and features a pool, sauna, workout room, offers fitness classes and also provides childcare.

School

Lloyd George Elementary, L’ecole Lloyd George Elementary School, Kamloops School of Arts and South Kamloops Secondary are all within walking distance for many South Kamloops residents.
